O Meowth é baseado na lenda japonesa do Manekineko (招き猫), que significa gato da sorte. É dito que este gato pode trazer dinheiro e clientes, por isso é comumente encontrado na frente de estabelecimentos, como lojas e restaurantes.
The Meowth is based on the Japanese legend of the Manekineko (招き猫), which means lucky cat. It is said that this cat can bring money and customers, which is why it is commonly found in front of establishments such as stores and restaurants.
Para criar o projeto, foi utilizado uma combinação dos elementos das patinhas do Manekineko, de gatos reais e da joia que todos os Meowth têm no topo da cabeça.
To create the design, a combination of elements from Manekineko's paws, real cats and the jewel that all Meowth have on the top of their heads were used.
